Biblioteca Universale Sacro-Profana : ウィキペディア英語版 | Biblioteca Universale Sacro-Profana
The ''Biblioteca universale sacro-profana'' (1701–07) is an unfinished encyclopedia from the early 18th century, published in Italian by the Franciscan friar Vincenzo Coronelli.〔Robert Collison: ''Encyclopaedias: Their History Throughout the Ages''. 2nd ed. New York & London 1966〕 It was one of the first universal encyclopedias in a European vernacular language with entries arranged alphabetically. It was planned to contain 45 volumes, but only 7 volumes appeared, reaching the letter ''C''.〔James L. Fuchs, "Natiionality and Knowledge in 18th-century Italy," Studies in 18th-century Culture 21 (1991): 207-18.〕 The ''Biblioteca universale'' is a bibliophilic rarity today. Few European libraries have the complete set of volumes. Exceptionally, the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, in Paris, has a complete set. ==References==
